Tawana Brown’s story is a powerful reminder of how meaningful work can support both professional growth and a fulfilling personal life. As the Associate Director of Educational Publications at the University of Kentucky, Tawana has found a career that allows her to make a significant impact on her community while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
When Tawana joined UK in 2011 after 13 years in the newspaper industry, she was seeking a change – one that would offer her both a career she loved and the opportunity to build a family. UK was the place where both were possible.
“I was hoping to have a family, but I still wanted to do the work that was important to me,” Tawana said. “I love being an editor, and I always wanted to continue to do that. It’s a good feeling to know I do something that makes a difference.”
Tawana’s passion for writing and communication began long before her career at UK. As an undergraduate student at UK, she studied journalism, driven by her love of reading, writing, and staying informed about current events. Her journey led her to the role of editor, where she could contribute her skills to bring important stories to life.
